Many Los Cabos beaches, especially on the Pacific side, have strong waves and undertow that make swimming dangerous. Palmilla is different for two reasons:

Blue Flag is an international certification for water quality, safety, services and environmental management. Palmilla first earned it in 2013, renewed it in September 2025, and in December 2025 the Los Cabos government listed it as one of three beaches with the top A+ rating, along with Santa María and Paraíso Leonero.

All beaches in Mexico are federal property, so the public has the right to access Palmilla Beach. The section directly in front of One&Only Palmilla, known as Pelican Beach, is reserved for hotel services.
